Turning Fields of Invasive Plants into Gardens with Animals

In August 2022 we were asked to come to The Barn Property and keep the fields from growing in with invasive plants and trees. Most of the fields are now looking much different having benefited from our goats, pigs, and other animals. One particular section has been the least worked and has started to grow in with Hawthorn saplings and lupine. Lupine is toxic to most livestock, especially sheep and cattle. Goats, and Pigs, tend to do better with lupine than sheep and cattle, especially when they are grazed at low levels before they have a chance to go to seed. Seeds are the most dangerous part of the Lupine. This video not only shows the work our pigs did last month, but how the lupine has started to regrow and also how I’m tilling up that ground, to help get rid of the Hawthorn and Lupine and turn it into a productive garden of corn, sunflowers, and peas! We’ll be writing more about this process and our journey on our website at BridenFarm.com
